"That was good to get back in the car and make a run down the race track," Brown said. "We didn't make a full pull, but it was great for the confidence of this Matco Tools team to be back here at the track and get going again. I know we'll make two good runs on Saturday and get in the top half of the field."
Professional nitro qualifying is scheduled for 12:45 and 3:30 p.m. (ET) on Saturday with Top Fuel followed by Funny Car.
After battling morning and early afternoon rain showers, the NHRA pros took to the track for one qualifying session late Friday afternoon. Antron Brown returned to the seat of the car that he drove to the win at the 2009 Auto Club Finals at Pomona, Calif. last November. Brown's Matco Tools/U.S. Army car shook the tires and slowed to a lap of 4.208 seconds at 203.40 mph to position the 24-time NHRA sixth in the 16-car order.
