Valvoline NHRA Team Claims Two Runner-up Finishes in Minnesota
BRAINERD, Minn. (Aug. 16, 2009) -- Larry Dixon (Top Fuel) and Ron Capps (Funny Car) gave Team Valvoline a pair of runner-up finishes in Sunday's NHRA national event at Brainerd International Raceway.
Dixon, who is third in Top Fuel points, lost a close race to Morgan Lucas in the final round of eliminations. Lucas ran an elapsed time of 3.814 seconds to Dixon's 3.818. .
In the Funny Car final, Capps lost traction early in his run and lost to Tony Pedregon. It was the seventh final round appearance of the season for Capps, who remains second in the point standings.
"It was a pretty grueling weekend," said Capps. "Today seemed like a whole weekend in itself. For today, I don't think the crew chiefs had more adverse conditions thrown at them from first round to the final: raining, having to wait the rain out, finally getting to run, and the sun coming out, the humidity coming up. It was a very up-and-down day."
There are two races remaining before the Countdown to 1 playoffs begin following the U.S. Nationals on Labor Day weekend.
