Worsham Swipes Funny Car Win in St. Louis in All-Valvoline Final
St. Louis (May 3, 2009) -- Team Valvoline struck again in the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series as Del Worsham defeated Valvoline teammate Ron Capps in the final round of eliminations.
The victory was the first of the season for Worsham, who is driving for the new Alan Johnson Al-Anabi Racing team. Worsham's victory came as a result of a quicker starting line reaction time. His final round run was 4.135 seconds to Capps 4.121.
"We got here and went down the track all six runs without any problem," said Worsham. "This team was assembled to do well, win races and win a championship, and I just want to be able to do my part. It was just a huge sense of excitement."
Team Valvoline driver Tony Schumacher dropped from first to second in the Top Fuel point standings after losing in the quarterfinal round. Antron Brown, who won at Gateway, is the Top Fuel points leader.
Also dropping from first to second in the point standings was Team Valvoline Pro Stock Motorcycle rider Matt Smith, who was a quarterfinal round loser at Gateway.
