Schumacher Grabs 14th Win of Season; Title Within Grasp
Tony Schumacher gave Team Valvoline another win as the NHRA Top Fuel dragster driver captured his 14th win of the season with a dominating performance at Virginia Motorsports Park in Dinwiddie, Va. near Richmond.
After his final-round win over Hillary Will, Schumacher will only have to qualify at the second to last race of the year -- Nov. 2 at Las Vegas -- to capture his fifth straight and sixth overall NHRA Top Fuel season crown.
"That's great news," said Schumacher. "This truly has been a storybook season. We're really looking forward to getting out to Vegas over Halloween weekend."
In the Funny Car category, Valvoline driver Jack Beckman lost in the Funny Car final to Cruz Pedregon. Beckman, who has made seven final-round appearances this season, is still in the hunt for the season title, only 51 points behind leader Tim Wilkerson.
"I've said the championship is going to come down to Pomona (final race of year, Nov. 16)," noted Beckman.
