Race Recap: Irwin Tools Night Race - Elliott Sadler

  • Elliott Sadler started the 500-lap event at Bristol Motor Speedway from the 41st position
  • The No. 19 team finished the race in 29th place
  • Sadler holds down the 29th position in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver point standings

Race Summary: Elliott Sadler took the green flag for the start of Saturday evening’s event and immediately communicated to crew chief Todd Parrott that his Hunt Brothers Pizza Ford was lacking front grip. Parrott made plans to make track bar and air pressure adjustments to the Ford Fusion during the first pit stop of the day, which came during a caution period on Lap 59. Sadler lined up for the Lap 62 caution in the 32nd position after having lost several laps early in the event.

Sadler continued to fight an ill-handling racecar and his No. 19 Ford went from loose to tight in the first half of the race. Parrott made additional adjustments to the car, including the removal of spring rubbers from the right rear, during a Lap 129 pit stop. At the halfway point of the event, Sadler held down the 31st spot.

Sadler continued to struggle and things went from bad to worse when he radioed to his crew that he had a right front tire issue on Lap 379 of the 500-lap race. Sadler ducked into the pits to the attention of his awaiting crew, who went to work to change both right side tires and send theEmporia-Va.-native back to the track.

When the checkered flew on the night race at Bristol Motor Speedway, Sadler’s Hunt Brothers Pizza Ford Fusion held down 29th place. Sadler remains in the 29th position in the NASCAR Sprint Cup point standings. Teams will enjoy one final weekend off before the end of the season and heading to Atlanta Motor Speedway in two weeks.
