Kahne stands 17th in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series point standings as the series heads to Michigan
Race Summary: Kasey Kahne lined up in the 36th spot for this weekend’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event at Watkins Glen International. Throughout the first 25 laps of the race, Kahne battled a car that was loose throughout the majority of the 2.45-mile road course. The team made a myriad of changes to the Budweiser Ford during the first pit stop on Lap 27, including lowering the track bar, raising the left-rear jack bolt and adjusting the air pressure , and sent him back out on the track in the 31st spot.
The changes helped Kahne and he moved from 31st to 23rd during the next 15 laps. As such, crew chief Kenny Francis made similar changes during the team’s next pit stop on Lap 41, adjusting the air pressure and track bar while adding four fresh tires and fuel. The team made one last major adjustment during its final pit stop of the race on Lap 59 by adding a spring rubber to the left rear spring. The adjustment helped Kahne’s handling of the Budweiser Ford, but it was still lacking what he needed to really be aggressive. Kahne finished the event in 17th place.
The finish dropped Kahne one position in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship point standings to 17th place. While he did lose a position in the point standings, he gained on the 12th position as he is now only 133 points behind Mark Martin, who currently sits in 12th place. Kahne on the Watkins Glen Event: “We passed some cars today, just not enough. Our Budweiser Ford was loose early and Kenny (Francis, crew chief) and the guys made it better , but we just never had the track position we needed. It’s been a tough couple weeks, but there’s still a lot of racing to do and we’ll get things back on track.”
