- Sadler holds down the 29th position in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver point standings heading to Michigan
Race Summary: After a disappointing qualifying run Saturday morning, Elliott Sadler lined up in the 38th position for the start of Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event at Watkins Glen International. Just after the drop of the green flag, Sadler let crew chief Todd Parrott know that the No. 19 Hunt Brothers Pizza Ford was loose in the left hand turns and tight in the rights. Parrott made plans to make a wedge adjust-ment during the first pit stop of the day.
Parrott’s strategy was to bring Sadler into the pits very early in the event, so the Emporia, Va.-native drove to the attention of his awaiting pit crew on Lap five of the 90-lap event. In addition to four fresh tires, the crew made a wedge adjustment and sent Sadler back onto the track.
A yellow flag on Lap 29 gave the team another opportunity to work on the handling of the car and when the green flag flew for the restart sev-eral laps later, Sadler held down the 35th spot. Though the car was loose at the start of the run, by Lap 35 the No. 19 machine had started to gain some rear grip. Unfortunately, Sadler was forced to make an unscheduled pit stop for four fresh tires several laps later when he realized he had a flat tire. The team went a lap down, but earned the Lucky Dog award when the next caution flag waved. Another stop for tires and fuel ensued and when Sadler returned to the track, he held down 38th place.
The team continued to make adjustments to the Hunt Brothers Pizza Ford Fusion throughout the remainder of the race. Sadler took the checkered flag in 29th place.
Sadler on the Watkins Glen Event: “We didn't get the qualifying lap that we were hoping for and that put us behind right from the start. The guys worked really hard on the Hunt Brothers Pizza Ford throughout the race, but we were never able to get the car where we needed it to be in order to make up track position. We’ll put this one behind us and head to Michigan. I’m excited to get there; it’s a track I love to race on.”
