Race Summary: Kasey Kahne started Sunday’s 200-lap event at Pocono Raceway from the 16th position. Rain showers kept the green flag from waving right on time, but after a short delay the racing action began.
Kahne relayed to his crew, led by crew chief Kenny Francis, that his No. 9 Budweiser Ford was tight in Turn 3 but good everywhere else. At the com-petition caution NASCAR called for at Lap 15, Kahne had worked his way to the 10th position.
At the first caution of the day, Francis brought his driver down pit road for four fresh tires and fuel as well as minor wedge and air pressure adjust-ments in an effort to help the handling of the car. The driver battled for position among the top 15 and fought a loose condition that had developed. As the race approached the halfway point, was hanging on to the 13th position.
Kahne reported his Richard Petty Motorsports Ford was getting loose again, but let the crew know that the adjustments they had made during the previous stops were definitely a step in the right direction.
The No. 9 RPM Ford sustained some damage from an accident at Lap 165 that collected teammate Elliott Sadler. After the ensuing red and yellow flag periods, the team was able to make repairs to the nose of the Ford Racing machine. The field went back to green at Lap 179. In the remaining laps, Kahne fought to get back to where he had been racing most of the day. At the checkered flag, Kahne was running in the 19th position.
