Kasey Kahne started Sunday’s race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway from the 24th position
The No. 9 Budweiser team finished 13th in the event
Kahne stands 17th in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver point standings
Race Summary: Kahne started 24th in Sunday’s race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and worked his way inside the top 20 within the first nine laps. A two-tire pit stop under caution on Lap 16 moved the Budweiser Ford up to ninth, but Kahne fell to 13th before the team pitted again on Lap 48.
The team made air pressure and chassis adjustments throughout the race in an effort to improve the handling of the Budweiser Ford and picked up positions on pit road with quick pit stops on multiple occasions. However, they weren’t able to find the right balance for Kahne to remain inside the top 10 for an entire run.
Kahne visited pit road for the final time on Lap 139 for tires, fuel, air pressure and wedge adjustments and restarted from the 12th position when the green flag waved on Lap 141. He dropped one spot in the closing laps to finish 13th.
Kahne maintained his 17th-place standing in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver points and is now 156 points out of the 12th-place cut-off point for the Chase to the NASCAR Sprint Cup, but only nine points behind 15th.
Kahne on the Indianapolis Event: “We just kind of battled the same stuff most of the race and couldn’t get a real good balance. We were real loose. We got 13th out of it but definitely had hoped for a stronger run.”
