- The No. 19 team was involved in a Lap-one incident and spent 105 laps in the garage making repairs
- Sadler holds down 28th place in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver point standings
Race Summary: Elliott Sadler lined up in the 27th position for the start of the Brickyard 400 at the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway and took the green flag ready for 160 laps of racing. Unfortunately, Sadler was the innocent victim of a lap-one, multi-car incident, which sent the team running to the garage area to make repairs to the Stanley Ford.
The No. 19 team spent 105 laps in the garage working on damage to both the front and rear of the car. Knowing they would be able to pick up several positions on the track if they could fix the car in time, the team worked feverishly in the heat to make that happen. Sadler returned to the track on Lap 106 in the 43rd position and was able to pick up five spots before the checkered flag flew at Lap 160.
Sadler fell one spot in the NASCAR Sprint Cup point standings as a result of the 38th-place finish and now stands in the 28th position.
Sadler on the Indianapolis Event: “This is two years in a row where we haven’t made it through a lap yet. Last year we had me-chanical problems, and now the wreck today. The No. 18 spun out and we were trying to get checked up, but there was nowhere to go. Somebody ran into the back of me and we all just kind of spun out.
“It’s just a shame. We felt like we hit on some stuff yesterday afternoon, and really wanted a chance to race today. We had a lot of people here from Stanley, so I apologize to them and my guys. We’ll try to fix it and make some laps, but it’s hard to put into words right now. I have not seen a replay yet. The first person I saw sideways was the 18, but I don’t know what happened, and then we all just piled up from there.”
