Kahne is now 20th in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series point standings
Race Summary: Kasey Kahne started Sunday‟s 301-lap event at New Hampshire Motor Speedway from the outside of the front row. Kahne was able to take the No. 9 Budweiser Ford Fusion to the lead at Lap 38 following a round of pit stops. He continued to lead as the field cycled through a round of green-flag pit stops, and didn‟t relinquish the top position until Kyle Busch passed him on Lap 153 while Kahne was caught by lapped traffic.
The team made minor chassis and air pressure adjustments through the first two-thirds of the race to help improve the handling of the No. 9 Bud-weiser Ford, and Kahne remained inside the top three until he experienced a problem with the engine at Lap 205 and slowed on the track. He radioed to the crew that the car felt like it was down a cylinder.
Kahne continued to make laps at a reduced speed and fell to the 17th position before the engine expired on Lap 238, bringing out the caution flag as the No. 9 car dropped fluid on the track. Kahne went straight to the garage area ending the team‟s day early.
Kahne led 110 of the 301 laps before the engine expired. The driver was credited with a 36th-place finish. The finish dropped Kahne two spots to 20th in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver point standings. He is currently 174 points out of the 12th-place cut-off point for the Chase to the Champion-ship.
Kahne on the Loudon Event: “We had a fast Budweiser Ford. It was nice to drive, but we just had a mechanical failure. It‟s tough. We‟ve been doing pretty good points-wise and that hurts again, but we can keep going for it and maybe we‟ll get there.”
