Valvoline Racers Win Nine SCCA Championships at Runoffs

Eight Valvoline club racers won nine national championships at October's 44th Annual Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) 2007 National Championship Runoffs at Topeka, Kan. In all, more than 700 racers participated and 25 national champions were crowned at Heartland Park.

Pete Peterson, a Lumberton, NC, auto dealer and long-time Valvoline stalwart, won the GT-3 championship, his sixth national championship, in a Toyota Celica.

Hans Peter, Overland Park, Kan., driving a Swift, demolished the C Sports Racing field to win one of two national championships over the weekend.

Peter also won the Formula Atlantic title on his home track.

John Heinricy, a GM executive from Royal Oak, Mich., won his 11th national championship in Showroom Stock C in his Chevy Cobalt SS.

Brian Novak, Dearborn, Mich., in his sixth trip to the Runoffs, finally found himself at the top of the podium, winning the Formula 500 national championship.

Andrew Aquilante, Chester Springs, Pa., dominated Touring 1, taking the pole in his Corvette and then leading every lap to win his first national title.

Brad Rampelberg of San Jose, Calif., won the rain-shortened Spec Miata race.

Don Knowles, Pittsboro, NC, won his first national championship in Touring 2 (to go with his three SSB titles) in his Pontiac Solstice GXP.

Stephen Oseth, Leesburg, Va., won his third national championship in Formula Vee.
